Fragrance. It is everywhere and hard to avoid at this point. It's in shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, perfumes, colognes, styling products, finishing products, face creams, eye creams, makeup, cleaning products, hand soaps, antibacterial hand gels, lotions, body oils, candles, air fresheners and so much more.
Bottom line is that fragrance is a chemical, a toxic one at that. It's something we really have no business, inhaling, absorbing, or wearing. We are so overly exposed today it's scary. It's in our health's best interest that we minimize or do away with these chemicals altogether as they store in our livers and deep in our tissues.
We can avoid fragrance by being label readers.
You can always purchase fragrance free products and scent them yourself with a quality essential oil. Some companies only scent products with essential oils and we applaud this. Essential oils can be worn as perfumes as well, just be sure to use a carrier oil such as coconut oil to keep the skin protected.
Try blending 2-3 scents for your very own scent and give it a name! There are a number of quality companies out there that do not use fragrance but you have to do a bit of due diligence to find ones that the product works well for you as well.
The name of the game is to go the least toxic as possible. You want your products to be as natural as possible! The more areas of our lives that we lower our toxic loads, the higher chance we have at optimal health.
We can also ask friends and family members to avoid wearing synthetic or chemically enhanced perfume/cologne. If something is quite offensive to you or makes you feel sick, never feel bad for removing yourself or for asking people to honor your sensitivities.
You deserve a non toxic environment to thrive in. Make your world a safe one!!
For fragrance alternatives try companies like:
A Perfume Organic
Lurk Natural Perfumes
Ayala Moriel Parfums
Pour Le Monde
Tsi La Perfumery + Organics
We also love burning scent-free candles (beeswax is best!) and adding a few drops of our own essential oils to diffuse on the hot wax!
