Navigating Breakouts

Breakouts can be common during a cleanse. It is also important to take note of your constitution (dry, inflamed or oily) while detoxing in order to remedy the skin.

For some of us, adding in a variety of fruits and veggies will clear our skin and for others it will exasperate conditions.

It’s important to understand there is a learning curve to all of this and that even though we are giving you a blueprint for meals to eat, it’s really about you discovering your unique balance.

Some find that adding in lots of fats when they go raw will irritate their skin. This is just another reason to be sure to keep your fats low.

For most people it will be better to add in cooked, simple meals if they are feeling extremely under satiated rather than add more raw fats. But again, this will be up your unique physiology and may take some experimenting.

If you are struggling with breakouts, the message is usually to simplify. You can scale back some by adding cooked foods and simplifying your meals as much as possible.

If adding cooked foods alone isn’t helping, we recommend reaching out for support in the community forum.

Eliminating processed foods such as oils, nut butters, and checking to see if there is a sensitivity to any powders, supplements or herbs you are taking is important. Be sure to always pair your fruit with an Adrenal Snack combination to stop blood sugar spikes.
To help navigate a breakout, we recommend a good cleanser like Skintactix (great for acne prone skin) or Living Libations Best Skin Ever (for those with mild blemishes).
If you don’t wear makeup, you really only need to wash your face at night with a cleanser. In the morning can can just rinse your skin with water and a soft, baby washcloth. Be sure not to re-use your washcloths so that you aren’t spreading bacteria.
Less is often more when it comes to loving on our delicate facial skin! Again, simplicity and consistency with our skincare is key.
It is incredibly helpful to use a facial steamer or create your own by putting your face over a bowl of hot water (be careful!)
Steaming helps bring toxins to the surface, as well as softens + moisturizes skin. Many blemishes will even pop naturally from this process.

As you likely already know: Always resist touching your face and squeezing blemishes!! This will often make things worse.

Try steaming and using a good medicinal product just on the spots— like Skintactix’s Green Tea Poultice. Use professional extraction methods when needed.

GLOW TIPS

For Dry Skin exfoliate gently with a papaya mask first and then apply a light application of pomegranate seed oil at night before bed. Avoid all harsh irritating chemicals and fragrances. If you are sensitive to oils, we recommend trying a high quality vegetable glycerin, instead.

For Oily Skin try using chickpea flour or tapioca flour during the day to balance the skin and absorb extra moisture. Apply with a makeup brush and dust off gently.

For Inflammed and Irritated Skin be mindful of simplifying your skincare routine. Certain medicinal products containing salycilic acid, cinnamon, turmeric and green tea may be helpful. Be mindful not to cause further irritation by doing masks and scrubs. Simply cleanse and use a honey or fresh aloe mask to lightly soothe. Rinse with room temperature water.

You can also make your own spot treatment by mixing fresh aloe + crushed aspirin and dabbing irritated areas overnight!
